Science journalism reaching broad audiences
January 19, 2026

Science News was founded in 1921 specifically to counter misinformation in the popular press. More than 100 years later, that founding purpose maps directly onto one of the most consequential information challenges of our time: helping the public understand the causes and consequences of extreme weather and what can be done about it.

Science News Media Group publishes across its flagship magazine Science News, its youth-focused Science News Explores, and seven social media platforms including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. With CO2 Foundation support, extreme weather coverage will be expanded through breaking news, in-depth features, and multimedia and interactive formats designed to reach audiences where they already are. A parallel track in Science News Explores will ensure that younger readers have access to accurate, engaging climate science. CO2 Foundation is glad to support an organization with both the scientific credibility and the broad public reach to engage and activate new audiences.
